What Methods Are Used in Chinese Medicine?
In re-establishing a patient’s balance, practitioners of Chinese medicine apply some of the following methods:
- Chinese herbal medicine – the main treatment method within TCM for over 3,000 years, becoming one of the most popular and effective alternative therapies in the West. Patients receive a custom written herbal prescription (prescribed Internally or applied externally) designed to treat both the symptom or disease, as well as the patient’s emotional temperament and bodily constitution.
- Acupuncture – used to regulate the flow of qi and blood within the body by inserting fine, sterile needles at specific acupoints. These acupoints have been mapped by the Chinese for over 5,000 years and confirmed by electro-magnetic research.
- Moxibustion – also regulates the flow of qi and blood within the body by warming certain acupoints by burning the herb Artemisia vulgaris sinensis over the affected area to warm it.
- Tui Na or An Mo – styles of Chinese massage.
- Tai Ji, Qi Gong – remedial or preventive exercises.
- Diet and Lifestyle.
- Cupping, Electrical Acupuncture, TDP Lamp and other techniques.
